AB and BC Government Collaborate to Improve Insurance Legislation

The Alberta and British Columbia governments have introduced amendments to their insurance laws to enhance consumer protection and increase efficiencies for the insurance industry. The legislation was introduced in connection to the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), which is a joint effort of Alberta and B.C. to remove barriers between the two provinces. Alberta Gets Minimum Wage Increase

In the interest of keeping pace with Alberta's growth, Premier Ed Stelmach has announced a minimum wage increase set to take effect April 1st.   With the minimum wage increasing from $8.00 per hour to $8.40, Alberta?s minimum wage remains the highest in Canada after taxes.  More information on the newest Government of Alberta initiative here 

U of C Appoints CGA as New VP of Finance and Services

The President of the University of Calgary recently announced the appointment of Gail Stephens, CGA to the position of Vice President, Finance and Services for a five-year term.  Gail is a Fellow of the CGA Association of Canada and has been recognized as one of Canada's 100 Most Powerful Women.  Previous positions have included the City of Winnipeg as City Auditor and Chief Administrative Officer and, since 2003, the CEO of the British Columbia Pension Corporation.  CGA Alberta welcomes Gail to Calgary and wishes her good luck in this exciting new endeavour.

CGA Celebrates 100 Years!

2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year for CGA as we celebrate a landmark anniversary; CGA is 100 years old!   For a century, CGA has represented individuals who know business, and know how to make it work on a local and international level. 

In celebration of this tremendous milestone, CGA-Canada and their affiliates are looking for 100 CGAs who have made an outstanding contribution to their communities and to the lives of others.  They deserve to be recognized and honoured during our 2008 centenary year.
