Transcript Evaluations

Q. What is the fee for a transcript evaluation?

The evaluation fee is an administrative fee applied to all new applicants for assessment of transfer credit.

Q. What do I need to submit for a transcript evaluation?

You are required to submit the Transcript Evaluation form, payment, official copies of your transcripts sent directly from the institution, and a work resume if your courses are more than 10-years-old.  If you have non-Canadian transcripts, we can accept original documents directly from you or certified copies.

Q. How do I send my documents for evaluation?

You should send official notarized copies of your degree, course transcripts, and IQAS or other assessments you may have completed.  A notarized true copy should be stamped, signed and dated by a designated accountant, lawyer, public notary, financial institution, or post-secondary registrar.

Q. Should I send my original transcripts?

Original documents should not be sent by mail, a notarized copy can be mailed to CGA Alberta for evaluation.  Or an appointment may be made to bring your documents to our the CGA office in person.

Q. How long does a transcript evaluation take to process?

CGA Alberta will evaluate transcripts within 2 weeks of receiving your official documents and payment. Once your evaluation has been completed, you will be sent the results by e-mail.

Q. Is a transcript evaluation required if I have not completed any post-secondary courses?

You are required to submit a transcript evaluation if you would like advanced standing in the Program.  A transcript evaluation is not required if you would prefer to begin at Level 1, even if you have previous post-secondary education.

Q. My Evaluation is done, what do I do now?

The next step is to become a CGA student and then enroll in courses. You decide where you wish to complete your remaining courses (either online with CGA, or at a post-secondary school in Alberta).  You confirm the credits showing on your evaluation by enrolling as a CGA student.

Q. Why are my evaluation results different to than the self assessment I completed?

CGA course credits depend on a number of factors, including the course grade, course content, and the time the course was completed.  The self assessment does not guarantee that the transfer credit requirements will be met on an official evaluation.

Q. I have a degree in a non-related field. Am I required to have a transcript evaluation completed?

You must have a transcript evaluation completed if you would like credit for the degree requirement, even if you are not requesting transfer credit for any courses.

Q. I graduated more than 10 years ago. Will my education still qualify for transfer credit?

This will depend on many variables - marks in required courses, length of time since courses were taken, work experience, etc. Please submit a résumé in conjunction with your transcripts for a complete evaluation.  You can forward your résumé to the CGA office via fax at 403-299-1339 or by e-mail to questions@cga-alberta.org.

Q. I have many years of accounting and financial management experience. Can I be exempted from any courses?

CGA is not able to grant academic credit based solely on work experience. Experience may be considered to support course work that is older than 10 years.
