Stakeholder Review

Consultation Phase - Seeking Input for CGA Alberta's Code Changes

CGA Alberta is seeking to make amendments to its Code of Ethical Principles and Rules of Conduct (Code). In order to do this, the Board of Governors must provide, for review and comment, a copy of any proposed changes of the Code to the Minister, and any other person that the Board considers advisable.  The membership and other outside stakeholders are being consulted prior to the CGA Alberta Board voting.   Membership voting will take place in November 2009 and the proposed mainly editorial amendments to the Code will be effective from the date of member ratification.

The public continues to demand greater accountability and transparency from the accounting profession.  CGAs are required to act in the best interests of their clients, employers and interested third parties and must be prepared to contain their own self interest in doing so. Our Code is principle based and continues to afford members the responsibility of maintaining independence by exercising their own professional judgment as we continue our ongoing shift toward international standards.

An executive summary of the changes can be found here.

A three column comparative summary of the changes, with rationales, can be found here.
