You are the CGA Brand. Promote yourself and the Designation.
The following initiatives are a few great examples of how our members actively promote the CGA brand. This is the most effective way to differentiate who you are and what you do to on your way to the corner office.
Wear your CGA ring
In donning the newly crafted CGA ring, you choose to become a part of the tradition. This special ring symbolizes three important CGA values: Integrity, Leadership and Excellence. The ring is both a tangible reminder of these important values, and a means of further enhancing the CGA fellowship. Wearing your ring allows CGAs to identify one another in personal and professional circles. Colleagues, Employers and the Corporate Community already recognize the benefits that come from working with a member of the Association, and now you are able to communicate your affiliation using a classic, refined example. Wear your CGA ring with pride as we celebrate more than 100 years of the CGA designation. Show by example why CGA is the designation of choice for all accounting professionals.Become an expert
CGA readily connects members with media requests for expert commentary. Become an expert or spokesperson in your field. Publish opinion editorials or articles, give presentations at conferences, allow yourself to be readily available for interviews, and increase yours and the profession's exposure by marketing your knowledge and expertise.
If you are interested, the Association can offer you free media training as part of our Subject Matter Expert program. Please contact Magdalena Matracki at 403-299-1310 for more information.

Participate in your community
At CGA, we value our communities. Be an inspiration to others and participate in strengthening and developing your community. Participate in fundraiser events, marathons, give blood, donate, help out a soup kitchen, and give back where you have a vested interest and time. Participate on volunteer or other boards and gain experience that will not only help your community but may also help your career! You can find volunteer board positions posted on our Employment Referral Service and occasionally in the e-Advocate. Government and non-profit websites are also a great resource for potential board positions or volunteer opportunities.
Be a key participant in business conferences and symposiums
The CGA designation is a welcomed presence at forums. Participate by acting as an expert in your field, by sharing your professional opinion, or just by networking with key business and political leaders.
Involve yourself with politics
Sound off on public policy and debate on key issues identified as central to Alberta's competitiveness in a way that profiles the profession's role and your expertise in your chosen field. Voluntarily provide commentary to governments on public policy matters.
Make your opinion known
Voice your concerns and your opinions to your local MLA. Our strength is in our numbers; we can take collective action as CGAs and influence public policy and government matters.
Attend networking and recruiting events
As members, you are a community of likeminded professionals. CGA Alberta offers countless opportunities to meet fellow members and prospective students at any number of CGA events. Share expertise, meet potential employers or kick back and relax with new friends.
Mentor a CGA student
Sharing your knowledge and experience is invaluable to student protégés. Help students on the right path by enabling them with the advice and motivation on what it takes to become a successful CGA.
Encourage prospective students
Pass along CGA recruitment and branding material to prospects with potential, and share the value of the designation. Information on fast-track programs are particularly valuable to up and coming professionals with potential to share your designation.
Participate in your chapter and your association
Be active in your chapter and have a say in the direction your board goes. Meet fellow members and strengthen your chapter by providing your expertise and direction in the chapter's development. Our membership includes committed volunteers operating on every level for the Association and for the benefit of many worthy causes. Share your knowledge and expertise with those in need and contribute to our world.
Provide leadership
Demonstrate your value to your employers by excelling in all of your endeavours. Promote the profession by leading with integrity and excellence both in your professional role and your public activities.
Share the advantages of the profession & be proud of the value you bring
We know that you have worked hard to earn your CGA designation and that you work hard to excel as a member. Let others know of your success and of the rewards associated with being a CGA.
Promote the fact that you are a CGA
Use the CGA initials after your name on your business card, in your email and all other correspondence. Ensure that your certificate is framed and on your wall. Not only do such actions convey pride, they also help potential clients and future colleagues recognize excellence.
