CGA Alberta Board of Governors
2008-2009 CGA Board of Governors
The CGA Alberta Board of Governors is comprised of thirteen members, nine CGAs elected by the membership, three public members appointed by the Government of Alberta and the Executive Director (Chief Executive Officer) of the Association who is an ex-officio (non-voting) member.
Les Willms, CGA is a Partner with Willms Lewis Shebeck LLP in Calgary. Les has been a member of the provincial board since 2004, and took up the post of Chair for the CGA Alberta Board of Governors in September, 2008. In the past, Les volunteered on the Tax Policy Advisory Committee, and served as both member and Chair of the Practice Review Committee. In addition to his many contributions to the CGA Alberta Association, he is actively involved in his community, most recently as Chair of Finance with the Between Friends Club of Calgary and a Member of the Board of Directors for the Parkinson?s Society of Alberta. Mr. Willms is a strong advocate of public practice and the CGA designation. He has been a member of CGA since 1984.
Diana Spagnuolo, CGA is a Manager of Commodity Tax with imperial Oil Limited, and has sat on the CGA Alberta Board of Governors since 2006. This September, Diana was named 1st Vice Chair of CGA Alberta. Diana was also previously active with CGA Ontario , holding various voluntary positions from Tax 1 marker, Chapter committee member, golf tournament committee member, guest speaker for CGA Ontario, Co-chair for the CGA Ontario golf tournament and Chair of the CGA Ontario Toronto Chapter Board. In addition to these commitments, Diana has also made the time to volunteer in her community, having sat on the Advisory Panel for CareerInsider Accounting Magazine and the Board of Directors for the York Condominium Corporation. Having worked in government, public accounting and industry, Diana has been successful in using her career path to promote the versatility and flexibility of the CGA designation. This commitment and belief in the designation makes her a valuable addition to the CGA Board of Governors.
Anita Klassen, CGA is the Accounting Manager for Catholic Charities, Catholic Social Services. She has been a member of the CGA Alberta Board of Governors since 2005, and was named CGA Alberta 2nd Vice Chair in September 2008. She received her designation in 1998, and immediately became involved in her Chapter, acting as Edmonton Chapter Treasurer and more recently, Edmonton Chapter Chair. When not involved with CGA volunteer commitments, Anita has also made time to volunteer on the Community Lottery Board and acted as the Employee Campaign Co-Chair.
David Inhaber, FCGA is the Academic Accounting Chair, Business Administration Diploma, School of Business, at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He is past Chair of CGA Alberta and has been the CGA Alberta representative on the National Education Committee since 2004. Mr. Inhaber was a member of the CGA Alberta Research and Education Foundation from 2004-2005, served as chair of the CGA Alberta audit committee, and has been chair of the practical experience sub-committee for the government sector since 1996. His community service includes being treasurer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary as well as chair of the organization's finance and audit committee. In the middle of a very busy career and various volunteer commitments David enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. In the past, David has worked in public practice as a senior tax manager for KPMG and Ernst & Young and as an Appeals Officer at CRA. He received his CGA designation in 1994 and was awarded the CGA-Canada Fellowship (FCGA) designation in 2007. David's well rounded experience both in the government and the private sector is a great asset for our membership & our association.
Carol Cox, CGA is a Business Auditor with the Canada Revenue Agency. She has served on the CGA Alberta Board of Governors since 2003, and has been an active participant with both the Calgary and Edmonton Chapters. She is an active community volunteer with the Air Cadet League of Canada and has contributed extensively to other youth programs in the area in the past. Carol's combined experience working with the Chapters, CGA Alberta, community organizations and business auditing has provided her with valuable experience for the Board of Governors and CGA Alberta.
Kenneth Grimes, CGA is a Corporate Controller for FLINT Energy Services. He brings 13 years of internal and external audit experience to the table, with an additional decade of experience with the areas of accounting, financial analysis & forecasting, budgeting and operations.. In addition to Kenneth's current role as Controller, his industry experience includes 14 years at large regulated utilities, four years at Capital City Savings, and six years in the public sector. He has contributed in many different areas within CGA as well, acting most recently as Exam Review Committee Chair, having sat on the CGA Ontario Board, and as an instructor in Management Accounting. Kenneth has also been active in his community, working for the United Way and youth sports organizations. Mr. Grimes has been a CGA member since 1997.
Greg Draper, CGA is Partner, Forensic Services, with Myers Norris and Penny LLP where he currently leads the Forensic Services practice. Prior to working at MNP, Draper spent 10 years as an RCMP officer in Alberta, working in both front-line policing and federal financial crime investigative roles. He has volunteered in many capacities with the Association, most notably as an investigator and mediator for the Complaints Inquiry Committee. A member since 2005, his insight, pride in his designation and strong work ethic make a significant contribution to the Board and the Association as a whole.
Rebecca Braun, CGA is the Vice-President of Finance, Hopewell Residential Communities, an Alberta-based residential land development company. She has volunteered with CGA Alberta on the Complaints Enquiry Committee since 2006, and was elected to the Board of Governors in 2007. In addition to her work for the Association, Ms. Braun is a very active community volunteer, contributing as a Member of the UDI Finance Community and as Director of the Master's Academy, as well as the Hopewell Charitable Donations Committee. Organizations that have benefitted from her contributions have included Meals on Wheels, Inn from the Cold, and the Calgary Food Bank. A CGA since 1999, Ms. Braun is now gearing up to pursue her MBA and continues to be dynamic contributor to the CGA Alberta Board.

Roger Sanson, CGA works for EnCana Corporation as Group Lead, Regulatory and Cross Border. He received his designation in 1995 and has volunteered in numerous positions within the Association, including the CGA Alberta Communications Advisory Committee, various student support activities and an advertising campaign, in addition to teaching taxation and other courses. Roger is an avid supporter and advocate of the designation and with the benefit of government, industry and academic experience, he will continue to advance the CGA designation in any way he can. He is very much looking forward to participating in the development of strategic plans for the organization with particular emphasis on the growing student population.

Rebecca Balcom is the Principal at Golder Associates Ltd and was appointed as a Public Member of the CGA Board of Governors in 2006.
