Admission FAQ's

Q. How long does it take to complete the CGA Program?

The CGA program can range from 2-7 years of part-time studies, depending on whether you have previously completed post-secondary courses in a business diploma or degree program.  You can receive transfer credit if you have completed equivalent course work from an accredited post-secondary institution prior to entering the CGA Program. To determine if you are eligible for transfer credits, you must request an evaluation of your academic transcripts.

Q. What basic skills do you need to start the Program?

Regardless of your educational and/or business background, you will need excellent math and communications skills to be successful. Once enrolled in the Program as a student, you will need motivation and discipline to complete the courses.

Q. Can I register in the CGA Program of Professional Studies if I am not a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant?

Individuals in Canada on student or work visas are eligible to enroll in the CGA Program of Studies. However, if you do not have a work visa you may not be able to meet the practical experience requirement needed to obtain the CGA designation.

Q. I am interested in becoming a CGA.  Where do I start?

Step 1 - Have your transcripts evaluated

If you have taken any equivalent post-secondary courses or if you have a bachelor degree, the first step in applying to the CGA Program is to have a transcript evaluation completed.  The evaluation will allow us to determine which level of the Program you would be at and how many course requirements you have to complete in order to be certified as a CGA.

Step 2 - Apply for admission and enroll as a Student

To get started on your remaining Program requirements, you apply to the Program and register as a CGA student.  More details on the admission requirements and how to apply.

Step 3 - Register for Courses

Once you have enrolled as a CGA student, you will be able to register for the online courses offered by CGA Alberta.  Click here for more details on the on-line learning process.  You also have the option to take equivalent courses through our partners (NAIT/SAIT) or through other recognized post-secondary institutions and transfer the courses into the CGA Program.  Click here for the Alberta transfer credit schedule.
