Exam Deferrals

CGA students unable to write an examination due to health or a death in the family may request an exam deferral after qualifications have been posted, up to five days after the exam sitting.  Students requesting a deferral due to extenuating circumstances must do so once qualification to write the exam has been established and a QTR has been issued for the course. An exam deferral must be requested online through My CGA Profile > Exam Requests > Request an Exam Deferral. There is a deferral fee,  charged at the time of the request. Students will locate a number of parameters surrounding an exam deferral below.

1.     Medical certificate or death certificate/obituary/etc. must be submitted to Student Services if the reasons are health related or due to a death in the family and we will waive the deferral fee.  These may be submitted to studentservices@cga-alberta.org.

2.     A deferral will be recorded as a 'DEF' and will not count as an attempt at the course.

3.     Students MUST write the examination at the next scheduled exam sitting when granted a deferral of an examination.  If not, an ETR (Elect to Re-Enroll) will be given and the course must repeated in its entirety.  Reference the exam schedule for next available exam offering.

4.     Students are responsible for any course material changes when an exam is deferred from one academic year to the next.

5.     Only one deferral per course per registration.

6.    Once an exam has been deferred the mark is now based on 100% of the exam.  NO course work marks will carry over.

If a student is unable to complete the course work, the student should exercise the course withdrawal options available or speak with an Program Advisor for assistance at studentservices@cga-alberta.org.
