Challenge Exams

Challenge exams may be granted for CGA courses based on previous academic achievement prior to enrollment with CGA Alberta or for certain courses offered at post-secondary institutions (reference the Transfer Credit Schedule for a list of elegible courses) that are not elegible for transfer credit.

Original sealed transcripts must be received directly from the post-secondary institution to CGA Alberta in order for Student Services to verify the Challenge exam privilege. Challenge exams must be written within the first year of the privilege granted. If a Challenge exam privilege has been granted, weekly course assignments are not submitted.

Students are required to pay for each Challenge exam and register via My CGA Profile > Exam Enrollment > Enroll in a Challenge Exam. The Challenge Exam Fee includes the cost of course lesson notes but not the cost of textbooks. Selected textbooks can be purchased through My CGA Profile > Course Materials > Purchase Inventory Item. *Please note the tax material are not sold separately.

CGA students must notifyCGA Alberta's Student Services, studentservices@cga-alberta.org or if they are registered in but do not wish to write a Challenge exam in the session for which they originally registered. Challenge exams can be deferred upon request and are subject to deferral fees.

CGA students that fail to notify CGA Alberta that they are not writing the Challenge exam that they are registered in, will result in the forfeiture of the Challenge exam privilege and the student will awarded a status of ETR (elect-to-re-enroll). Enrolling in a course where a Challenge exam has been granted cancels the Challenge exam privilege.

Students who fail to obtain an exam mark of at least 65% are counted with an academic attempt and are required to complete the course in its entirety including assignments, online discussions and quiz submissions - in order to qualify to take the CGA national exam. Challenge exams are NOT elegible for the Supplemental exam privilege.

Student Services may be contacted for more information at studentervices@cga-alberta.org.
