Study Resources

Examination Blueprints

Students are encouraged to use the examination blueprint to prepare for the examination, keeping in mind that the blueprint may not include all topics listed in the course outline.  Students are responsible for acquiring a broad-based knowledge of all topics, including those not listed in the blueprint, since their understanding of these topics will be tested in assignment and review questions.  The topics not listed in the blueprint will also provide a greater depth of understanding for the courses.

Past Examinations

The Past Examinations and Suggested Solutions are intended to offer an overview of  the total body of knowledge that a CGA student is expected to have mastered or understood in a course.  Suggested solutions may provide an outline of satisfactory responses to some examination questions, especially where qualitative or subjective answers are required.  In such questions, students would be expected to provide additional detail in good form to demonstrate their understanding.  A high standard of written expression is also expected.

Please note: certain examinations change from year to year.  Questions and topics on past exams will not necessarily be on the current academic year's exam.  These are to be used for study purposes only. Past Examinations are available on Blackboard.

Course Assignments

You are encouraged to first read the learning objectives at the beginning of the lesson followed by the assigned chapter(s) of the textbook.  Then, study the lesson notes and relate them to the assigned textbook material.  Follow through the computer illustrations as they are presented and review any technical updates that might be on Blackboard.  Next, complete the review questions on Blackboard and check your answers against the suggested solutions.  Finally, review the objectives of the lesson and check on the designated levels of competence for each topic.  If there are still areas which you feel uncertain about, you should review this process again.  You are now ready to complete the assignment!  Remember to carefully check your work and retain a copy for your records.

Study Aids

Several resources are available through Blackboard:

Brush Up On Your Writing Skills, adapted from the Communications 1 (CM1) course; provides an excellent overview of effective writing.
