Course Delivery & Enrollment

The CGA Program is designed to offer individuals the opportunity to study part-time while working full-time and advancing their career. The program offers four sessions annually:

Fall: Sept. - Nov.
Winter: Dec. - Feb.
Spring: Mar. - May
Summer: Jun. - Aug.

CGA offers two methods to complete courses: Online learning and Classroom study.

Online Learning:

Course Enrollment

The Association recommends that students take only one online course per session while they are working full-time. Please anticipate devoting a minimum of 20 hours per week to studies.

Enroll online by logging in to My CGA Profile >Course Enrollment. The course fee includes all required course material including textbooks, lesson materials as well as online tutor support, audio-streamed exam reviews and lectures, education software and national examination fees. Course fees are all-inclusive and cannot be broken down into separate cost components. Course material not available on Blackboard will be shipped directly to your mailing address within 3 - 5 working days of your online course registration.

Your course registration is complete only when you receive the transaction summary page which lists applicable fees and course ID. The Association recommends keeping a printed copy of this and all transaction summaries on file for the entire academic year as proof of registration and payment. You can confirm your enrollment by checking your Shipping/Transaction History tab in My CGA Profile.

Course fees are taxable but listed exclusive of the GST amount and are divided into two categories:

  • New if you are enrolling for the first time in a course
  • Repeat if you are repeating a course from the preceding year and new textbooks are not needed

The Association does not accept faxed application or course enrollment forms.

Blackboard Online Learning Environment (OLE)

As of September 2008, all CGA courses are delivered using the Blackboard Online Learning Environment. The course delivery platform offers students a more efficient and effective learning experience. Be sure to become familiar with and take advantage of the new learning resources - including mini tutorials, automated course updates, and comprehensive course reviews. Students can customize the Blackboard interface and use the built-in tools to effectively organize student schedules for the academic year.

Online Lessons and Assignments

Each course that you take through CGA incorporates lessons and corresponding assignments, online discussions and quizzes. You will be required to complete assignments, online discussions or quizzes as a means to evaluate your progress. For Level 4 and PACE courses, the assignment marks are used to determine whether you qualify for the course's national examination. For each lesson, you will also be provided with a set of review questions and suggested solutions to assist you in further reinforcing the concepts and skills you have learned.

Classroom Learning:

This option is for students who learn more effectively in a classroom environment. Please refer to the Transfer Credit Schedule for a complete listing of courses CGA Alberta will accept for transfer credit from Alberta post-secondary institutions.

Course Enrollment

For CGA course equivalents, please enroll directly with your chosen post-secondary institution. Request transfer credits for these courses when you have received your final course grades. An official post-secondary transcript will be required for your file.
