Business Cases
CGA Students are required to complete two computer-based case studies to gain experience in applying business management skills in a professional and practical manner using the industry's most advanced financial software:- Business Case 1 (BC1) - Accounting Business Case
- Business Case 2 (BC2) - Public Practice Audit Case
For a complete description and listing of required pre-requisites for both BC1 and BC2, please refer to the current course syllabus.
You can complete your Business Cases online through CGA Alberta or at a post secondary institution and request transfer credit. Please refer to the Transfer Credit Schedules for Business Case course equivalents at recognized post secondary institutions. You may also qualify for an exemption for BC1. Please refer to the Transfer Credit Schedules for further details.
NEW ONLINE DELIVERY & SUBMISSION FORMAT STARTING SESSION 1, 2010/2011
Business Case courses are delivered and submitted online through Blackboard. All course materials except for the Caseware software CD are available online in Blackboard.
If you experience any issues installing or using Caseware, please contact CGA Canada IT Help at support@cga-canada.org for assistance.
Final marks for BC1 are assessed based on your performance on five integrative assignments:
- Assignment 1 - 45%
- Assignment 2 - 17%
- Assignment 3 - 13%
- Assignment 4 - 15%
- Assignment 5 - 10%
Final marks for BC2 are assessed based on your performance on five integrative assignments:
- Assignment 1 - 26 marks
- Assignment 2 - 10 marks
- Assignment 3 - 16 marks
- Assignment 4 - 13 marks
- Assignment 5 - 35 marks
The minimum final grade requirement in order to receive credit for a Business Case course completed through CGA Alberta is 65%.
Failure to submit all assignments will result in an unsuccessful course attempt (FAIL).
You are required to submit all your assignments by 12 NOON MST on the published due date indicated on the course schedule in Blackboard. All assignments you submit by their respective deadlines are returned by your marker within one week from the published due date.
In some cases, you are permitted to submit assignments up to seven days after the published due date for a fee. This applies to assignments 1 - 3 only. Your submission links for assignments 1-3 in Blackboard remain open during the seven day grace period and will lock promptly at 12 NOON MST on the last allowed late submission date. Please do not contact the Association if you are submitting your assignment during this grace period. A late assignment fee is charged for each overdue assignment. All late assignment fee(s) you may accumulate are posted to your 'Checkout' in 'My CGA Profile' at the end of the session.
Any assignments you submit after the published due date may not be graded until the current week's assignment has been marked.
Assignments 4 and 5 must be submitted by the published due date, no later than 12 NOON MST. Late submissions are not possible for these assignments.
NOTE: FOR BC2 ONLY?
Your marker may require that you re-submit one assignment if you commit a critical error, regardless of whether or not you currently have a passing grade in the course. A critical error includes but is not limited to:
- Signing off on the audit report as a partner, rather than the firm;
- Submitting a balance sheet that is not in balance.
You will be notified if you need to re-submit one of your assignments in the feedback you receive through BlackBoard for your last assignment.
Since there is no national exam for Business Case courses, final grades are available by the end of exam week for the session. Please review the 'Important Dates' to determine when exam week falls for each session of the current academic year.
