Foundation Course Composition and Evaluation
The Foundation Studies includes ten courses that form the basic knowledge of the accounting profession. Business Case 1 (BC1), completed at the end of the Foundation Studies, integrates the basic financial management concepts in a practical and professional manner.In Foundation courses, you are not required to have a minimum average on your course work to write the exam, however the quiz and/or assignment marks count 30% towards the final grade in the course. Financial Accounting Fundamentals (FA1), Financial Accounting: Assets (FA2), Accounting: Liabilities & Equities (FA3), Management Accounting Fundamentals (MA1), Managing Information Systems (MS1), Corporate Finance Fundamentals (FN1), and Business Communications (CM1) have three integrative assignment, plus five bi-weekly quizzes.
EM1 LW1, and QU1 have five bi-weekly quizzes only.
Online quizzes and assignments will be locked off after 12 NOON MST on the last day of the access period. *There are no late submissions on quizzes*
Only the first assignment may be handed in late. Late submissions will be accepted up to, but no later than, one week after the official due date. Please be advised that late assignments may not be marked until the current week's assignment has been marked.
No late submissions are permitted for assignments 2 & 3. Please note that marked midterm assignments will have a two week turnaround, assignments 1 & 3 will be returned in seven days.
If you submit any assignment after the due date you will be charged a late fee per late assignment. All fees are posted to your checkout at the end of the session.
Breakdown of Course Marks
For FA1, FA2,FA3, MA1, MS1, FN1 and CM1 your final mark will consist of three components:
- Integrative assignments out of 5%, 10% and 5%
- Quiz marks out of 10%
- Final exam out of 70%
For EM1, LW1, QU1, your final mark will consist of two components:
- Quiz marks out of 30%
- Final exam out of 70%
