Regulated Accounting Profession Act (RAPA)
The Regulated Accounting Profession Act (RAPA) is the omnibus provincial legislation by which Alberta governs the three major designated bodies. It was created to:
- Protect the interests of the public;
- Protect the integrity of the profession;
- Promote and increase the competence of registrants; and
- To regulate the conduct of registrants.
Proclaimed on September 13, 2001, representatives from all three bodies and the government drafted and formulated the legislation. The Act allows CGAs to be self-governing, sets the rules for the Association's activities, and lists those activities which regulation, bylaw or Board policy must cover.
The Regulated Accounting Profession Act (RAPA) is available on the Alberta Government's website.
